Curated List of Software Engineering Apprenticeships

by Gordon Zhu, January 2025

Note: Last updated March 21, 2025. This is a living resource and is continuously updated to reflect the latest available information. If you'd like to make a suggestion, email us at team[at] with the subject "apprenticeships".

Apprenticeships are essentially internships for adults. Unlike normal full-time roles where you're expected to hit the ground running, apprenticeships provide additional support and mentoring.

  • All listed apprenticeships are paid opportunities. It's common for companies to pay what would equate to an annualized salary of $80-120K.
  • The list is heavily US-based. Naturally, I know the most about the US market since I'm based here and most of my students are as well.
  • The list only includes apprenticeships where programming is the primary job function.
  • The list only includes programs that have been active in the last 1-2 years. In my research, I spent way too much time researching programs just to find out that they've quietly shut down. Companies, update your information pages!
  • I only include programs that are centered around actual work experience. Many "apprenticeships" are thinly veiled bootcamps. This framing is misleading because it implies actual work experience but doesn't deliver.

The list is sorted by urgency:

  • APPLY ASAP. Applications are open but may close at any moment.
  • Get ready. Data from previous years suggest that applications may open soon.
  • Keep an eye out. Applications will probably open in a few months.
  • The program is active, but we don't have a good idea of when applications will open again.

Spotify Tech Fellowship

  • Duration: 18 weeks in New York, London, or Stockholm
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background
  • Junior engineer applications open

I'm not sure if or when the tech fellowship program will restart, but as of 3/14/25, there's one junior engineering role listed: Junior iOS Engineer - Partner Integrations. I believe their apprentice program ran in 2024, but I haven't found specific dates for the application window. Will update as soon as I find out.

Roblox Community Apprenticeship Software Engineer

  • Duration: 12 weeks in San Mateo
  • Requirements: At least 18 years old
  • Applications are now open

It seems like they may be looking for people that are active on Roblox and have built things for it already.

Reynolds and Reynolds Entry Level Developer

  • Duration: Indefinite, full-time
  • Requirements: None
  • Applications are now open

These are full-time roles, not apprenticeships. I included them because the job listings are extremely open to non-traditional candidates. Several listings say that no formal education is required and that training is provided. As of 1/5/2024, there were entry level software developer roles in Houston TX, College Station TX, Dayton OH, and Andover MA. On their jobs page, filter by the "software development" job category.

Airbnb Connect Engineering Apprenticeship

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Requirements: No CS degree

If you missed the 2025 window (2/10/25-2/17/25), a good bet for 2026 is that the application window will be similar (sometime in February). There's some consistency here as the application window in 2024 was 2/10/24-2/20/24. For more information about the application process, see this Reddit thread about the 2025 cycle.

Target Technology Leadership Program

  • Duration: Full-time
  • Requirements: Open to relocation to Minneapolis

This is technically a full-time early career rotational program. If you're hired, you'll be a normal full-time employee. I think this is actually much better because you won't have another job search looming in a few months. The most recent application window lasted from approximately 1/6/25 to 2/19/25. Here's an archived snapshot of the previous listing.

Capital One Developer Academy (CODA)

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

Based on this page, there are two cohorts per year, which start recruiting around February and August. To get a detailed sense of the timeline, see this Reddit discussion.

Home Depot Software Engineering Apprenticeship

  • Duration: 3-4 months
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background
  • My best guess is that applications will open in February

I couldn't find an official info page, so I linked to a Reddit thread instead. According to the thread, in 2024, people were applying in February. It sucks, but my best advice is to check the website periodically and search for "apprentice" on their career page.

AsanaUP Software Engineering Apprenticeships

  • Duration: 6 months in San Francisco
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

Open positions are listed at the bottom of the apprenticeship info page. They recruited a new class around April 2024. So my best guess is that they may start again in April 2025.

Dropbox Emerging Talent Program

  • Duration: 5 months
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

Open positions are listed at the bottom of the program page. Based on this recorded info session, applications may open around July of each year.

Linkedin Reach Program

  • Duration: 1-5 years
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

The 1-5 year duration makes this a unique program. Software engineer apprentices may start off working in an engineering adjacent role like technical writer. It seems like the goal is to very slowly have apprentices move towards full-time engineering step-by-step.

The info page says, "No longer accepting applications for the February 2025 cohort. Please check back early 2025 for hiring information for the next cohort!"

Microsoft Leap

  • Duration: 4 months
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

At the current moment, the website offers little useful information about applying. In my digging, the best source of information was past listings. For example, here is the Leap software engineer listing from 2024. The page says that "Microsoft will accept applications for this role until August 29, 2024". After more digging, I found a random page that says the application window was August 22-28, 2024. With a window this tight, it seems like your best bet is to follow and turn on notifications for Microsoft Leap's Linkedin page.

Accenture Apprenticeship Program

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Requirements: High school diploma

On the careers page, filter on apprenticeship to see open positions.

JPMorgan Emerging Talent Program

  • Duration: 2 years
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background

The most recent application window was 12/1/2024 to 1/13/2025. This suggests that the next application cycle may be around 12/1/2025. Candidates will be placed in Columbus OH, Jersey City NJ, Plano TX, or Wilmington DE.

Shopify Internships

  • Duration: 4 months in Montréal, Ottawa, or Toronto
  • Requirements: None, open to everyone

Even though this is called an internship program, I included it because they encourage everyone to apply. The most recent application for summer interns closed on 1/12/25. My best guess is that recruiting for the fall intern cycle may start around March.

Pinterest Apprenticeship Program

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Requirements: Non-traditional background
  • Application window 3/10/25-3/14/25

In the 2025 cycle, the application window was weirdly short and only went from 3/11/25 to only 3/14/25. Here's an archived snapshot of the 2025 listing. On the main info page, you can submit a form to get notified when applications open. This is especially important given the small application window! I can confirm the email notifications do seem to work.
